Magic Rampage is a hack and slash platform title. There are a number of classes to choose from and these include your fantasy staples like Paladin, Warrior, Mage or Druid. I decided to go with the Druid class. The character customisation was a nice surprise as I was not expecting this level of detail from the game. The controls are easy and you soon find yourself in the thick of the action, throwing swords through zombie skulls and collecting coins and gems which can be spent upgrading weapons and armour. There are further objectives within the levels such as finding secret areas or collecting blue diamonds.
The graphics are nice and the artistic style of the game makes for an attractive playing experience. The colours really pop out of the screen and there is a pleasing shine and polish to the finished product. The game plays really well on the Google Pixel and I didn’t experience any lag whatsoever.
The game play itself is moreish. On the face of it it is a simple dungeon platformer, but this game has some bells and whistles attached to it. The satisfaction of letting an axe fly and getting a head shot on an enemy character leaves you wanting more, and the survival mode is a welcome addition where you need to stay alive for as long as possible against a constant stream of enemies. There are also some really cool game mechanics which I won’t ruin for you, but you shouldn’t be disappointed.
There are loads of upgrades to armour and new weapons can be bought for coins but some of them seem too expensive to buy without buying gold with your own cash.
Castle Creeps TD
Castle Creeps Td is much of what you’d expect from a fantasy tower defence game; enemies spawn in groups and you have to stop them getting to the other side of the map by strategically building towers to defend your lanes.
This game is absolutely bursting with content. The tutorial stages at the beginning were excellent and it was great to learn how to play so quickly. Upgrading the towers and your hero characters is easy enough and there are tons of hero and tower perks from chest rewards. The chest rewards can be unlocked daily for free or bought with coins and keys.
The levels start out easy enough but soon become strategically challenging and getting the right balance of archers, infantry, cannons and magic towers is really important if you want to get any further. Using your hero effectively and working out how to efficiently level up your towers adds more complex strategy and thinking that will satisfy even the most experienced gamers.
The music, sound effects and artistic direction are all very well executed and in truth I struggled to put the game down as I was enjoying it so much.
I have only spent a few hours on each, but I can tell already that both titles are worth your time. You might even be able to forget about real life for a while!
