NVIDIA Shield – Best of 2017

This morning I thought I’d try something different and summarise the best titles available for the Nvidia Shield. First things first though. What actually is the Nvidia Shield?

It is essentially a home entertainment system built by Nvidia and powered by Android. You can stream music, play games from the Google Play store and get news, sport and TV. All at your fingertips. It also allows you to control aspects of your home like the thermostat, lights and door locks if you’re into that kind of wizardry. But what about the good stuff? The games?

1. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel

Fans of this violent, cell shaded RPG will be excited to learn that it is now available on the Nvidia Shield device. The environment is endless and full of loot and bad guys to pop. The co-op mode takes this game to the next level allowing you to jump in and out of your friends’ campaigns with little effort.

2. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance 

This isn’t your softly softly MGS of old. Here you’re given a samurai sword to go crazy with. And that is precisely what you do – hacking and slashing your way through the story line. It’s a tad on the pricey side, but this is justified when you realise how much fun you’re having. If you have an Nvidia Shield device, you will certainly want this game in your library!

3. Half Life 2

Do I really need to introduce this game and tell you how good it is? Even after all these years it’s still so God damn good. A great story tied in with awesome weapons and some nail biting scenarios – this really is a must have.

4. Pavilion 

If you like quirky puzzle games combined with stunning artistry, you will love Pavilion. This Nvidia Shield exclusive sees you manipulating the game environment to control your charachter and to get him to the end of the level. Only through trial and error will you work out how to succeed here. As I’ve said the game is stunningly beautiful and the developers have blended incredible visuals with a wonderful soundtrack.

5. Portal 

Holy cow. This game takes me back. I remember playing this magical beast back when it was first released. I am pleased to say all of the things that make this game so special have been saved in this Nvidia Shield version. Including the hilarious AI. I don’t need to explain what this game is about as if you have played it you’ll know, and if you haven’t, well, then you’re in for a treat!

So there we have it. Five brilliant Nvidia Shield titles to sink your teeth into. If you haven’t yet, it might be time to think about investing in one of these new age entertainment boxes. The Nvidia Shield provides a high quality gaming experience and an unrivalled streaming service, for half the price of a new gen console.
